Formulation and Process for Environmentally Neutral Rust Remover

The primary purpose of acid pickling (rust removal) is to eliminate scale and other surface contaminants from wire rod, thereby facilitating subsequent passivation or the formation of other protective films. Hydrochloric acid is currently the most widely used pickling agent on the market due to its high cleaning efficiency and low cost; however, it is highly volatile and poses significant environmental pollution risks.
The primary purpose of acid pickling (rust removal) is to eliminate scale and other surface contaminants from wire rod, thereby facilitating subsequent passivation or the formation of other protective coatings. Hydrochloric acid is currently the most widely used pickling agent on the market due to its high cleaning efficiency and low cost; however, it is highly volatile and causes significant environmental pollution. As environmental concerns continue to intensify, many enterprises are facing substantial pressure to comply with stricter environmental regulations. In particular, the metal surface treatment industry is grappling with challenges such as restrictions on the recovery and reuse of spent hydrochloric acid, rising costs for wastewater treatment, and the need for efficient wastewater recycling and compliance with emission limits. There is an urgent demand for new products that can effectively replace hydrochloric acid-based pickling, with neutral, environmentally friendly rust removers receiving the most attention.
I. Main Ingredients
Our company has developed an environmentally friendly, neutral rust remover—a brand-new steel rust-removal product formulated with chelating agents, activators, accelerators, rust inhibitors, deionized water, and other ingredients. It contains no conventional inorganic acids such as nitric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, or sulfuric acid.
II. Uses
It is suitable for removing loose rust, light scale, oxides, fingerprints, perspiration, and inorganic salts from the surfaces of steel workpieces, iron workpieces, carbon steel, cast iron, and other metallic parts. It can also be used as a pre-treatment descaling agent in metal surface treatment processes and for cleaning rust from equipment, fully replacing conventional acid pickling for rust removal.

III. Main Performance
1. Rapid rust removal without damaging the substrate, preventing hydrogen embrittlement and reducing the likelihood of re-rusting;
2. Does not corrode workpiece coatings and can remove rust and scale from the edges of precision parts; product performance is stable.
3. Environmentally friendly and green, with no exhaust emissions, harmless to humans, and characterized by high efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
IV. Precautions
1. Prior to rust removal, the workpiece shall be thoroughly cleaned of oil and grease.
2. During cleaning, workpieces should be properly and reasonably arranged to avoid overlapping. The undiluted cleaning agent should be added regularly in appropriate amounts based on the cleaning performance. If, after replenishment, the cleaning effectiveness still fails to meet the required standards, the solution should be discarded and replaced with fresh solution. In general, the service life of the cleaning solution is 3–7 days.
3. This product is neutral and has no adverse effects on humans or the environment; however, prolonged skin contact with the cleaning solution should be avoided to prevent defatting of the skin, which may lead to dryness and roughness. In addition, keep out of reach of children and avoid splashing into the eyes.
